Hi everyone, another full on week of athletics with our athletes doing team Ringwood proud at the Commonwealth Bank 2022-2023 State relays. To all athletes who participated and to those that medalled, you are all champions of our state!
This is a great achievement and you should be proud of yourselves. For those athletes that missed out this time, there is always next year. Keep training consistently and you can earn a place at State.
Last week competition was trialled on a Sunday and was successful. We had 146 athletes compete, a whopping 247 PBs and 4 centre records. These results are impressive and again well done to all athletes, you are starting to see the results of your consistency.
This week we return to normal Saturday competition, Program A, with our relay- a-thon. What is relay-a-thon? Essentially we allocate two lanes on the track for athletes to run around the track passing batons to athletes of all age groups. The baton must continue to be passed around the track until all age groups have completed their laps. Why? We do it for some fun to recognise and raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Bring your gold coins so we can fill the tins, buy raffle tickets, so we can help out children who are less fortunate than ourselves. Last year we raised $3000, this year lets aim higher. We will also donate all BBQ proceeds as well.
Early throws (Shot and Discus)for our U13-U16 starting from 8:30. I have also added an additional throw for our U10s. Please sign up – https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D45AEAE28A1FDC34-week1
See you at the track on Saturday.
Things to know – Information Hub
Saturday 11th Feb – Normal Competition with Relay-a-thon, dedicated to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Bring your gold coins, there will be raffles, prizes and we are donating our BBQ proceeds for the day. Dig deep.
Clinics and normal training Sunday 12th Feb – This week we have our U6-U8 clinic, a hurdles clinic and normal training from 9am. Note that our clinics are by invite only and entries are closed. If you have not signed up, you cannot participate. It will be hectic so please remember these basic safety measures :
- Parent helpers keep yourselves and athletes clear of the track and infield as well.
- Parents must stay at the training session with their children at all times.
- We will need parent helpers to assist Abbey with the U6-U8 clinic.
This is going to be a big session and hopefully very worthwhile.
EMR T&F – Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th Feb – Over 70 athletes from Ringwood are attending, which is a great number of athletes. Parents are expected to volunteer on the day with a duty roster to be released shortly. This will be a great two days.
During that weekend, the U6-U8 carnival will be run for these athletes not eligible for EMR T&F at Ringwood on Saturday morning.. Program and more details to come next week.
Ringwood Gift 25th Feb – This is a normal competition week with the 100m gift as the feature event. Only one Boy and one Girl athlete wins a sash for the winner of the 100m event. All athletes love a good race, this is the event for that!!
Boost twilight – 10th March – This is our one and only Friday twilight. Come along for an evening of athletics under the lights and this will be our last normal competition before Centre Games.
Ringwood Centre Games 18th March 2023 8am-4pm – It will be all day – Save the date
Centre Games Championship is our last competition day. The format will remain the same as last year where athletes can select any number of events, depending on their age group. It usually runs longer than our normal competition day, so we ask that parents save the date now. Entry forms will be sent out shortly with all entry and qualifying information. Also remember its free to all eligible financial members.
AGM and awards presentation day – Currently this is pencilled in for Sunday 2nd April from 10am -12pm. More information to come.
Cross Country – COMING SOON!
As part of your membership, you can compete in the cross country events during the cooler months on Sunday mornings from about 9am-10.30am. This is a great way for athletes to keep fit and connected to each other in the “down time”. Team Manager needed – Our long time team manager Belinda Jones is not available this season, so we are looking for someone to manage the Sunday morning cross country. Its very easy and not time consuming. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org. to express your interest.
